In the
beginning

Heather Morgan and Colby Zell met in 1996
when they were both working at TGIFriday's in Harrisburg. She
was an "SPG" (smiley people greeter) and he was a "DubDub"
(waiter/waitress - these are Friday's terms, people!)
The First
Bet

Colby earned the first date by
betting Heather she would fall for the game in which you point at an
imaginary stain on a person's shirt and then (as they look down) you
"get them" by bringing the pointing hand up and tapping their chin.
Impressively mature, we know. She did have to fall for it 5
times in a day, though.

The Second
Bet

From the beginning, Colby was
dead set on not getting married. But as the years started to
go by, Heather started asking Colby when she'd get to have her
day. Being a marriage-phobic kind of guy, Colby offered up
the best deal he could make.. he suggested that if Heather could
stand being with him for TEN YEARS, then he'd propose, and if
she'd still have him they would get married.
The
Proposal

Colby realized somewhere during
year four that Heather wasn't going anywhere. Griffin
suspects he had something to do with that since that was the year
he was adopted. In any case, in the summer of 2005, Colby
publicly bent his knee and asked Heather to marry him in front of
both of their mothers at Basnight's Lone Cedar Cafe in the Outer
Banks, North Carolina.
